Innovation (OTech)

While LiquidO was born in the context of fundamental physics research, a major fraction of the derived LiquidO-based projects (approved & funded) aimed to address innovation challenges; i.e. the immediate application of the LiquidO technology to the service of the resolution of critical problematics for our industry and society. All LiquidO-based projects in this context are labelled OTech, referring to its Opacity-based Technology.

As of today, there are 2 main OTech projects:

  • LPET-OTech (from January 2022) specialised in novel technology development for immediate medical physics imaging – funded by France’s ANR agency (grant named: “TEP-OTech” more compatible with the French language). The LPET project and collaboration are (alphabetically) led by Dr. D. Brasse (IPHC, Strasbourg) and Dr. A. Cabrera (IJCLab, Orsay) including institutions in France from:
    1. CNRS (Arronax, IJCLab, IPHC, and Subatech laboratories)
    2. INSERM (LaTIM laboratory)
  • AntiMatter-OTech (from December 2022) specialised in novel technology for nuclear reactor instrumentation – funded by the European EIC-Pathfinder (CNRS communiqué) and the UKRI agencies. The AM-OTech innovation project is led by Dr. A. Cabrera (IJCLab, Orsay) and Prof. F. Yermia (deputy; Subatech, Nantes) with a  Europe-based collaboration between industry EDF [PI: Mr. P. Vieu] and 4 academic entities and 5 institutions:
    1. CIEMAT laboratory (Spain) [PI: Dr. C. Palomares],
    2. CNRS/IN2P3 laboratories (IJCLab and Subatech, France) [PI: Dr. A. Cabrera],
    3. Johannes Gutenberg Universität Mainz (Germany) [PI: Prof. A. Weber]
    4. University of Sussex (UK) [PI: Prof. J. Hartnell]

The AM-OTech project (focused on innovation) is the basis of a fundamental physics project called CLOUD experiment, led by an enlarged and reinforced dedicated scientific collaboration. The scientific outcome of AM-OTech – along with CLOUD – is also expected to provide key inputs for the SuperChooz Pathfinder project.
